I’m very pleased to announce that I’ll be sharing two large recent paintings, and in very good company, at Werring Contemporary, in Devon, PA, this fall, as part of “Disrupted Realism": The Evolution of a Movement”
About ten years ago now, give or take, a conversation started happening amongst painters on social media, looking for a name or a label for a certain emergent tendency in contemporary painting, and a lot of interesting questions got posed. I’m not sure we got any answers, but it has been a lovely conversation so far, with many interesting questions posed, and articulated, and being included in it has meant showing with SO many painters whose work i deeply admire. There have been a number of wonderful exhibitions in those years, and I remember at the first one, at Stanek Gallery, in Philadelphia, a fellow painter posing the question: is this definitive? who’s missing that should be included? Everyone had thoughts, and it was clear that it would be some years answering any of the questions raised—and that, thankfully, the most definitive responses would be in our native language: paint.
